Keep Swing and Jazz Alive!

Welcome to the Swing & Jazz Preservation Society

Providing Swing and Jazz Concerts to the public and benefitting Palm Beach County public school music programs.

No matter what type of music you like best, you can agree that music brings people together. Jazz is a wonderful genre that started in the early 1900’s, with Swing coming to the scene in the 1920’s. A group of us who love this music formed the Society to preserve swing and jazz through our monthly concerts, and to support the Palm Beach County public schools that have bands and teach children to play this music.

There has been a steady decrease in music education funding by the state. Funds raised by our organization help support music education in our schools.

Early in 2012, The Swing & Jazz Preservation Society and its patrons (in cooperation with District 14 of the Palm Beach County Bandmasters Association) sponsored a Battle of the Bands school contest, awarding over $22,000 in prize money to 22 bands at the 16 schools that entered. This program benefitted the music students and dedicated teachers of Palm Beach County public Middle and High School music departments and has now become an annual event.

Those who support our organization feel strongly that young people need to be exposed to these classic music styles—swing and Jazz—so they hear more than just the current pop hits and hip hop playing on the radio today.

The memory of things gone is important to a jazz musician. Things like old folks singing in the moonlight in the back yard on a hot night or something said long ago. - Louis Armstrong

We are a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization holding jazz concerts at the Spanish River Church, Yamato Rd. and St. Andrews Blvd., Boca Raton, FL. These wonderful concerts not only provide entertainment—but they also provide the funds to make donations to Palm Beach County school music programs. This is our primary reason for existence—to ensure that young people will become interested in playing these classic instruments, thus keeping these styles of music alive into the future!

Thank you for your support

We can’t thank you enough for caring about Our Mission, which is two-fold:

1. To bring the finest available live music to jazz enthusiasts and new audiences in South Palm Beach County, upholding the tradition of American jazz and swing.

2. To provide assistance to promising young music students in our public schools through our annual Battle of the Bands contests. Our Society assists public schools to earn funds to continue music education and secure the future of American swing and jazz. We ensure that many talented young people in our public schools can find funds for their continuing music education, thereby laying the foundation for the future of American jazz.
